Conference Vienna 2026

The programme below sets out the structure of the Lung Cancer Europe Conference, taking place in Vienna from Wednesday 22 to Friday 24 April 2026.

It also includes invitation-only pre-conference meetings on Tuesday 21 April, held ahead of the main conference.

The Lung Cancer Europe Conference 2026 brings together member organisations from across Europe to share experience, reflect on progress, and strengthen a collective European voice on lung cancer. The conference also connects with Lung Cancer Europe’s broader advocacy and awareness work across Europe, including the Get Checked campaign, which focuses on earlier diagnosis, support after diagnosis, and addressing inequalities in lung cancer care.

This is Lung Cancer Europe’s first annual conference. It has been developed as a working conference for member organisations, with a clear focus on shared learning, open discussion, and practical exchange. The programme prioritises dialogue over formal presentation, recognising the value of experience from across countries and roles in driving change at European and national level.

Across the conference, sessions explore progress and gaps in lung cancer care, access, research, and policy, drawing on evidence, lived experience, and system-level insight. The programme brings together different perspectives to examine what is working, where inequities persist, and how collaboration across Europe can support more consistent and fair outcomes.

The structure and themes of the programme are confirmed. Speakers and contributors are being invited to take part in specific sessions aligned with these themes, with further details shared in advance of the conference.

Arrival and Advisory Boards

Tuesday is the arrival day for many participants. It offers time to travel, settle in, and get oriented before the conference begins.

For those involved, the afternoon includes invitation-only advisory board meetings, bringing together selected Lung Cancer Europe member leaders and invited partners for focused, facilitated discussion on advocacy-relevant topics. These sessions are separate from the main conference programme.

For others, the day provides space to explore Vienna, connect informally with colleagues, and ease into the conference ahead of the busier days that follow.

The day concludes with an informal dinner for those arriving early.

Wednesday 22 April 2026

Conference Opening and Town Hall

The conference opens with Lung Cancer Europe’s Annual General Meeting for member organisations, followed by the formal opening of the conference in the afternoon.

The opening session sets the context for the days ahead, bringing everyone together to reflect on shared priorities, challenges, and opportunities in lung cancer advocacy across Europe.

The afternoon continues with a Town Hall session designed for open discussion and exchange. Through facilitated conversations, participants will explore key themes and share perspectives from across countries and organisations, creating space for honest reflection and peer learning.

The day concludes with a welcome reception and dinner, providing time to connect informally ahead of the core conference day.

Thursday 23 April 2026

Core Conference Day

Thursday is the main conference day, bringing everyone together for shared discussion across the full range of conference themes.

The day opens with a whole-group session exploring the future of lung cancer in Europe, including progress, innovation, access, and the role of lived experience. This sets a shared frame for the discussions that follow.

Later in the morning, participants take part in facilitated breakout discussions focused on data, evidence, and advocacy. These sessions explore how evidence is used in practice, where gaps remain between evidence and implementation, and how insights can support national and European advocacy.

The afternoon programme focuses on treatment, decision-making, research, and access. Sessions examine personalised lung cancer care, how treatment decisions are made in real-world settings, the realities of considering clinical trials across borders, and what meaningful partnerships in research look like in practice.

Time is built into the day for discussion, reflection, and exchange between participants, alongside breaks and informal conversation.

The day concludes with an evening dinner.

Friday 24 April 2026

Members Day

Friday is dedicated to Lung Cancer Europe member organisations and provides time and space to focus on shared priorities, challenges, and collective next steps.

The Members Day is designed as a working day, bringing organisations together to reflect on the themes and discussions emerging from the conference, exchange experience across countries, and explore where joint approaches can strengthen advocacy at both national and European level. It recognises the diversity of health systems, resources, and contexts across Europe, while creating space to identify common ground and opportunities for collaboration.

Sessions focus on collaboration, capacity-building, and practical learning, with structured time for discussion, reflection, and peer exchange. The emphasis is on supporting member organisations in their work, sharing what has been effective in different settings, and identifying areas where working together can add real value.

The day concludes with a Members Dinner, offering an opportunity to continue conversations in a more informal setting and strengthen relationships across the network. For those staying on after the conference, the close of the formal programme also allows time to enjoy more of Vienna and continue discussions beyond the conference setting.
